The Maryland Baton Council
Founded in 1971.
As a council, our goal is to build and maintain an organization of directors, coaches, judges, parents, and other interested individuals that together promote and coordinate baton twirling activities in Maryland fostering honesty, sportsmanship, and a competitive spirit for the athletes.
We aim to build a community that supports all current, new, and alumni athletes to learn, grow, and maintain interest in the sport of baton twirling. The success and progress of our council depends largely on the participation of our organizations.
As part of the United States Twirling Association, the Maryland Baton Council works to inspire by sponsoring activities that educate and encourage growth within the sport such as, workshops, twirling clinics, scholarship contests, competitions, and state championships.
To successfully pursue our commitment and purpose we invite all organizations and individuals to be a part of this community. We encourage all organizations and individuals to play an active role in making each year better than the last and expanding the things we can do to promote the growth of our athletes and community.
The Maryland Baton Council is sanctioned by the United States Twirling association. Learn more by visiting www.ustwirling.com!

Typically we begin our competition season in February and ends with our State Championships in May. Depending on the team you or your athlete is on, there are two more contests over the summer months: the Northeast Regional Championships in June and the National Championships in July, both are typically held out of state.

Not at all! There are both individual and team events your child can participate in. We recommend finding a team that is near you so your child can learn along with others. It is a lot of fun to do both but new twirlers get a lot out of starting as part of a team.

We generally try to keep our competitions within the Anne Arundel, Calvert, and Prince George’s County areas as they are central for a lot of our twirlers in Maryland. However, depending on availability, there may be some contests that are held outside these counties/areas.
